Well today we recieved our chinook salmon for pen rearing this year. The DEC said there were about 108,000 fish this year. The fish will be fed about 5 times a day until they are ready to be released directly into the lake. This Friday kicks off the spring Loc Derby, with a grand Prize of $15,000 for the biggest fish overall!!!! the derby runs until Mothers day, and I have many days open still if anyone would like to fish it. I did have a client for a short trip last Sunday, and even though the fishing was a little tough, he was able to do battle with a nice lake trout, and our first Chinook Salmon of the year!!!

Even though the boat has been in the water for over a week, today was the day we got the shakedown cruise in. I was finally able to get out fishing for the first time this year, and the crew included myself, my daughter, and my wife. We started out trying to fish the shallows, but after a hard blow for 2 days, the water was too dirty, and we could not get a bite no matter which direction we went. I did not want to get skunked on my first trip out , so we headed out to 40-50 Feet of water depth , and started marking fish suspended from 20 feet down to almost the bottom. I changed my riggs up, and sent a DW Chrome/Glow/Green Dot Spin Doctor Attractor with an Atomik fly down the chute rigger at 40 feet, my favorite mag 42 second NK Gold belly, at 30, and a silver belly DW Reg size spook spoon at 20. We comenced to land 2 Lakers, a brown, and a coho, within the last half hour of our trip. It was a good first day out on the water, and here is a picture of myself , and my daughter, with her first fish of the year. I have many dates available, if you would like to come and experience this great fishery which is Lake Ontario- Captain Mike

Well the boat is in for the season!!!! I got her launched a couple days ago, and hope to get out fishing this weekend once this last weather system passes by. All of this rain we are getting has all the creeks high and muddy which should get the inshore brown trout fishing really going good this weekend. I have seen some good reports from last weekend, and earlier this week. Good catches of browns were reported with quite a few in the 10 lb class range, and a monster almost 25 lb brown that was caught at the Oak last weekend!!!! I still have all of the rest of April available, and I don't have anything booked until May 4th. Contact me to get in on some of the great spring fishing that Lake Ontario has to offer. Thank's- Captain Mike

Only a couple weeks to go now!!!! I am still hopeing to get the boat in the water within the first or second week of April. This will be dependant on how the overnight temps are forecasted. I was hopeing to get it in sooner, but the temps just need to get warmer. We had some great weather last weekend, and I took advantage of it to get the boat uncovered, and got the bottom painting and other spring time maintenance started. More importantly, some other people with small boats took advantage of the warm weather to give the inshore brown trout fishing a shot, and said the results were impressive!!!! I saw reports of a few boats out of Point Breeze, and other ports along the lake that did very well on the browns, with good numbers, and some impressive 10-15 pound fish!!!!! That can only be a good sign of what is to come this season.  - Captain Mike

Well it won't be long now. April is only a little over a month away, and I can't wait for the start of the 2013 fishing season. While the air temps can still be cooler the inshore brown trout fishing can be hot!!! Coho salmon , and some steelhead can be caught along with the browns, and there were a good number of Chinooks caught last year feeding inshore with the browns. We can only hope for the same this year. - Captain Mike

60 degree temps yesterday, and back into the 20's today with high winds!!! There was a very good looking mudline out in the lake though, and I sure wished I was out there trying for some super early season brown trout. April can't get here soon enough!!! I am getting trips on the calendar already, so if you were going to book a trip for this year, now is the time to set a date, as the weekends always book up first. As always thank's, and good luck fishing.- Captain Mike
